Chef Lorraine Platman’s culinary beginnings started as a Girl Scout with a field trip to the Detroit Edison Company’s test kitchen in which she and her troop made Macaroni Beef Skillet.  

Her love of cooking continued through her college years and early adulthood, when she honed her kitchen skills, cooking for her future husband at her University apartment and at their Detroit area home after they were married. 

Lorraine’s culinary odyssey continued with her opening of a Deli in 1982 in Madison Heights, Michigan, which she operated for 21 years.  In 1984 she opened her four-Star restaurant, Sweet Lorraine’s Café & Bar with her husband Gary Sussman in Southfield, Michigan, which still thrives today.   

Chef Lorraine’s restaurants continue to excite guests with her “World Beat Cuisine” almost thirty years after her first restaurant opened.  Today she has namesake restaurants in Livonia, Michigan and Lahaska, Pennsylvania as well as the original in Southfield, Michigan. 

Noodles dishes have always been at the core of Lorraine’s menus.  Some of her guest’s favorites over the years at her various restaurants have included Macaroni Salad, Spicy Bangkok Noodles, Salmon with Angel Hair Pasta, and of course Mac n’ cheese! 

“Sweet Lorraine’s Mac n’ Cheez! Kitchen” is Chef Lorraine’s latest endeavor, showcasing one of the most popular dishes at all of her full-service restaurants.  In this “jazzed-Up” incarnation, 12 different kinds of “Mac n’ Cheez” are offered.  Additionally, guests can create literally thousands of delicious combinations with all of the toppings available. 

Every time the staff tells someone that we have “Soups, Salads, Sandwich wraps and 12 types of Mac n’cheez!” Their faces light up, they smile and say “12 types of Mac n’ Cheez?--WOW!”   

And it’s all fresh….Sweet Lorraine’s Mac n’ Cheez! Kitchen cooks up pasta everyday and coat the noodles to order with the most amazing Ooey-Gooey Cheddar cheese sauce, top it all with more cheese and finish it for a minute in the broiler till it’s bubbly hot! 

That’s the Classic Mac, but there’s more—11 other combinations that Chef Lorraine has come up with that are amazing!  That’s what everyone who tries them are saying! 

All of the Mac n’ Cheez! varieties are assembled when you place your order, so they’re as fresh as possible--Using all natural chicken, steamed tiger shrimp, freshly chopped lettuce mixes, and Sandwich Wraps made to order!  

There are vegetarian soups everyday and a fun assortment of beverages, but they don’t call her “Sweet Lorraine” for nothin’—There are also freshly-baked cookies and triple-chocolate brownies.
